An elderly man died after a serious crash in Plainsboro on Tuesday.
PLAINSBORO -- An elderly man was killed and his wife seriously injured following a single-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon on Route 1 near College Road.
Police have described the couple only as Mercer County residents at this time until family members have been notified.
At 2:30 p.m., the man -- driving a beige 2009 Toyota Corolla -- attempted to merge onto Route 1 South from the westbound ramp of College Road when, for unknown reasons, he lost control and continued straight over a curb, across the highway, ultimately smashing into a concrete median, according to Lt. John Bresnen of the Plainsboro Police Department.
The man was taken to the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro where he was pronounced dead. His wife was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for traumatic injuries, according to Bresnen.
No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
The crash caused lane closures and traffic delays.
