Students earn honorable mention in C-SPAN competition.
EDISON -- Wali Qureshi, an eighth-grader at John Adams Middle School, and Shekhar Iyer, Aman Karangutkar and Amit Acharya, freshmen at John P. Stevens High School, earned honorable mention in StudentCam 2017, a national video documentary competition hosted by C-SPAN.
To participate, students in grades 6 to 12 created a 5- to 7-minute video documentary based on the competition theme for 2017, "Your Message To Washington: What is the most urgent issue for the new president and Congress to address in 2017?"
More than 2,900 films were submitted by students from 46 states, Washington D.C., England, Germany, Singapore and Taiwan, the most entries submitted in the contest's 13 years.
Qureshi earned honorable mention for his film, "The Unjust Justice System," while Iver, Karangutkar and Acharya were honored for a film they created together called "Before the Rise."
Other winners from New Jersey include Maansi Srivastava, Sarah Ryu, Tatiana Yared and Ashley Lee from the Bergen County Academies in Hackensack and Ilan Barnea and Sam Modlinger from Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County in New Milford.
