SOUTH BRUNSWICK -- A small brush fire on the train tracks brought the Northeast Corridor to a halt Saturday afternoon.
The fire was first reported by an Amtrak train engineer who thought the wheels of the train were on fire, South Brunswick Capt. James Ryan said.
The blaze turned out to be a pile of leaves that caught fire on or near the tracks, shutting down service for a short amount of time as firefighters put out the brush fire, Ryan said.
Trains were delayed for up to 10 minutes, according to NJ Transit's twitter.
No injuries were reported and all passengers remained on the train, which had about seven cars, according to Ryan.
Amtrak and NJ Transit did not immediately respond for comment.
