Fire officials said the shock also started a small fire at the warehouse on Ethel Road.
PISCATAWAY -- A man was severely burned by an electric shock that caused a small fire at an industrial warehouse Saturday afternoon, according to fire officials.
Firefighters responded to the building on Ethel Road at around 11 a.m.
The man, who was not identified, was working in the electrical room of the building when he was shocked, according to Chief John Scarpa, of the North Stelton Fire Co.
The man was flown to Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston to be treated for "serious burns," Scarpa said.
The chief said the fire was contained to the electrical room and brought under control in about 15 minutes.
The warehouse is under construction and is not currently occupied, Scarpa said.
The building is owned by JMD Investments LLC, according to property tax records.
The incident is under investigation by the Piscataway Police Department and the Piscataway Fire Prevention Bureau.
