Residents near the St. James Catholic Church at 36 Lincoln Ave. later reported hearing a loud noise between 1:30-2:30 a.m., but no one immediately called police.
JAMESBURG - Police say a gunman fired two to three shotgun blasts into the front doors of St. James Catholic Church early Sunday when no one was inside.
Residents near the church at 36 Lincoln Ave. later reported hearing a loud noise between 1:30-2:30 a.m., but no one immediately called police.
"Church staff noticed bullet holes in the front door" about 7:30 a.m. and called police, Det. Jason Muller stated in a news release.
The staff had arrived to prepare for Mass at 8 a.m., police said.
No one was available for comment at the church Monday morning.
