PERTH AMBOY -- A 21-year-old man is in critical condition after being ejected from his truck in an early morning crash on a highway onramp, State Police said.
The accident occurred just after 3 a.m. Saturday when the man ran off the road and crashed a Chevy pickup into a barrier, according to State Police spokesman Trooper Alejandro Goez.
The man from St. Pete's Beach, Fla., was getting on Route 440 southbound from State Street in Perth Amboy, about a half-mile from the Outerbridge Crossing, Goez said.
Authorities airlifted the seriously injured man to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick, where he remains critical, Goez said.
No other passengers were in the pickup.
State Police closed the onramp for more than four hours for an investigation, Goez said.
No further details about the incident were available, according to Goez, who said the accident remains under investigation.
