MIDDLESEX -- The A&P supermarket in Middlesex is shown in this photo from the early 1970s.
The store, a "barrel roof" design, was located on Route 28 at the point where Union Avenue becomes Lincoln Boulevard. Small shops separated the A&P from W.T. Grant, the other "anchor" in the strip mall.
The A&P closed in 2001 and a Food Basics occupied the space until closing its doors in 2006. Currently, the site is home to the Route 28 Farmers Market.
