PLAINSBORO -- A patient care technician at University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro has been charged with sexual assault after police say he improperly touched an incapacitated patient.
Richard Smith, 40, of Princeton, was charged Tuesday with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual contact and criminal sexual contact, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey and Chief Guy Armour of the Plainsboro Police Department.
Smith is jailed on $200,000 bail.
Authorities say that Smith lifted the hospital gown of a 25-year-old woman and improperly touched her while she was incapacitated. The alleged assault was reported by hospital officials, Carey's office said.
Police said Smith previously worked at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton and at a private medical practice in Princeton. He started at the Plainsboro hospital in May.
