CARTERET -- Authorities in Middlesex County have offered a cash reward for information in connection to the violent November robbery of a food delivery driver, said a Carteret Police Department spokesman.

The victim, a 54-year-old male, was delivering food for a local restaurant on November 29 when he was beaten and robbed after arriving at a Heald Street residence, the spokesman said.

The victim, whose name has not been released, told police he was walking towards the residence when he noticed a young male sitting on the stairs of the residence. The victim reported the suspect began attacking him as he approach, police said. A second person may have joined in the attack, the victim told police.

Officers responding to the scene later found the victim laying bloody and disoriented in the street, the spokesman said.

The victim was transported to University Hospital in Newark for treatment, and he remains hospitalized, the spokesman said.

According to authorities, the food the victim was set to deliver was missing from the scene. It is unclear whether any other items were taken in the incident, officials said.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey, in cooperation with Crimestoppers, is offering an unspecified cash reward for information leading to an arrest in connection to the robbery.

A Carteret Police Department investigation into the incident is ongoing. Officials are asking anyone with information to call the Carteret police tip line at 732-541-3852.
