HOWELL -- An apparent medical emergency led a 57-year-old Middlesex County man to crash his vehicle on Sunday.
The driver, Eugene Escandon of Port Reading, had to be revived in the area of Howell Road and Route 33 by police and witnesses of the crash, Howell police said in a statement to news outlets.
When police responded to the scene shortly after 1 p.m. after receiving a report of a motor-vehicle crash and a medical emergency, they found Escandon unconscious and unresponsive, police said.
CPR was given to Escandon from Officers Michael Silvani and Thomas Matthews, with the assistance of witnesses at the scene. After he was revived, Escandon was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.
Howell Township police's emergency medical personnel division, firefighters from Adelphia and first aid responders from Farmingdale-Howell assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation, and police asked anyone with information to call Patrolman Silvani at 732-938-4111 or 732-938-4575 ext. 2651.
