A spokesman for the power company said he expected service to be restored by 2 p.m.
METUCHEN -- About 920 people were left without power in Metuchen Sunday afternoon, according to PSE&G.
A spokesman for the power company said the outage occurred around 12:10 p.m. and was expected to be fixed by 2 p.m.
The spokesman said the outage was caused by an equipment failure on Amboy Avenue. A transformer was on fire there around 12 p.m.
A traffic light was out at the intersection of Main Street and Amboy Avenue, and police were helping direct traffic.
A small patch of grass outside a home on Amboy Avenue caught fire, burning a few yards of ground and leaves before police Sgt. Jim Burns kicked out the flames. A few wires dangled overhead.
