Meaghan McGowan, 25, was driving a 2005 Volkswagon Jetta eastbound on Ingleside Avenue at the intersection with Route 31 around 7:23 a.m. when she pulled out in front of a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The two cars collided on Route 31 as McGowan tried to cross the state highway, Lt. Christopher Kascik said.

McGowan, of Spotswood, was taken to an area hospital with multiple injuries by Pennington First Aid Squad, Kascik said.

The driver of the Jeep, 18-year-old Robert Smith  of Pennington, suffered a leg injury. He was taken to an area hospital by Hopewell Valley Emergency Services, Kascik said.

McGowan was at fault in the collision, and she was cited for failure to observe the stop sign and careless driving, Kascik said.

The crash was investigated by Officer Joseph Maccaquano of the Hopewell Township Police Department.
