CARTERET -- The church rectory of the St. Demetrius Church was significantly damaged in a fire Monday morning, but nobody was injured.
The fire at the two-story brick home on Roosevelt Avenue was reported at 9:17 a.m., authorities said. The rectory houses the Rev. Dr. Taras Chubenko and his wife Maryann, according to the borough.
The blaze was quickly under control after firefighters responded.
The Chubenkos lost most of their home goods and personal items, the borough said.
Donations for the reverend and his wife can be mailed to the Charity Trust Fund at 61 Cooke Ave., Carteret N.J. 07008.
