A New Brunswick man who fought with police in Central Pennsylvania has been sentenced to seven to 14 months in county prison, according to a report.

Charles Cathcart, 27, was earlier convicted of felony aggravated assault of a police officer for igniting an incident in which two officers suffered minor injuries, WKOK.com. said.

Two Shamokin police tried to stop Cathcart when they saw him walking in the street in May. Cathcart yelled a racial slur and refused to stop, leading to a struggle that required assistance from other departments, according to PressReader.com.

Catcart tried disarm one of the officers during the fight and also had to be tased, the report said. Before that, he repeatedly yelled at police to shoot him, threatened police and pretended to remove something from his pants pocket.

No weapon was found. After his arrest, Cathcart told police he had had previously been diagnosed with schizophrenia and said, "I'm sorry, sir."
