A Woodbridge babysitter is charged with child endangerment in connection with the death of a six-month-old boy.
WOODBRIDGE TOWNSHIP -- A babysitter has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child in connection with the death earlier this month of a 6-month-old boy.
Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey said Wednesday that Marianne McIntire-Caulfield, 62, of the Iselin section of Woodbridge, was charged on Tuesday.
The prosecutor said McIntire-Caulfield was babysitting for as many as eight infants in her home, which was subjected to "unsanitary conditions."
Carey said McIntire-Caulfield surrendered Wednesday at Woodbridge police headquarters. Bail was set at $100,000.
Carey said the babysitter noticed on Dec. 1 that the six-month-old boy was in distress and called police at 4:47 p.m. The baby was taken to John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Edison where he was pronounced dead a short time later, Carey said.
The prosecutor said an autopsy is incomplete and pending the results of toxicology tests.
Anyone with information is asked to call either Woodbridge police Detective Jorge Quesada (732) 634-7700 or county Detective Gregory Morris (732) 745-4054
