Eight new cops got new ranks.
PERTH AMBOY -- Eight Perth Amboy police officers got new ranks during a ceremony at the Raritan Bay Area YMCA Tuesday night.
Mayor Wilda Diaz and Deputy Chief Larry Cattano presided over the proceedings, which was attended by scores of friends and family who packed the YMCA's auditorium.
Nicholas M. Simone, Jr. became a captain. Carmelo Jimenez Jr., Andy Montalvo Sr., and Joseph Sulikowski were elevated to lieutenant. And Armando Lagomarsini, Brandon Bucior, Frank J. Szeg, III, and Richard Zaleski became sergeants.
The department is now at historically high staffing levels, city officials said.
