Police responding to the scene found a broken glass door and blood on the floor and counter, Linden police said.
LINDEN -- A Carteret man has been charged with a convenience store burglary after DNA evidence and surveillance footage connected him to the crime, authorities said.
Michael T. Freeman, 38, is accused of robbing Quick Buy Food Store on Linden's West St. Georges Avenue last February, Linden police Capt. James Sarnicki said.
An alarm went off at the Quick Buy on Feb. 16 at 2:22 a.m., Sarnicki said. He said responding officers discovered the broken door and blood, and found that cash, cigarettes and cigarillos were missing.
Detectives watched video surveillance footage and sent the blood to the Union County Forensics Laboratory for DNA analysis, according to Sarnicki.
He said after several months of investigation, detectives issued an arrest warrant charging Freeman with burglary and theft. Sarnicki said Old Bridge Township Police then arrested Freeman, who is now in Union County Jail, pending a future court date.
