SOUTH RIVER -- A stretch of Main Street is closed in South River on Tuesday afternoon due to a house fire, the police department said.
The structure fire is between Reid Street and Jackson Street, police said. Motorists should avoid the area and plan alternative routes, police said. Traffic is backing up heavily in the area, police said.
The alert about the road closure went out at 4:04 p.m., just in time for the afternoon rush.
The occupants of the five-family home all escaped safely, mycentraljersey.com reported. The fire was brought under control around 6:30 p.m.
