Blizzard of 2016 dumped more snow than the city usually gets in an entire year. Watch video
NEW BRUNSWICK -- The powerful East Coast blizzard this past weekend turned out to be the biggest snowstorm on record in the city of New Brunswick, which was pounded with 26.9 inches of snow from Friday night to Saturday night.
That snowfall total smashed the city's previous record by more than 4 inches and also gave New Brunswick more snow than it usually gets in an entire year -- 26.7 inches, according to New Jersey State Climatologist David Robinson, at Rutgers University.
Robinson's snowfall records for New Brunswick date back to the late 1800s.
One interesting trend: Six of the city's most significant snowstorms have all occurred in the past 20 years.

The weekend blizzard also broke a record in New Jersey's largest city, Newark, which ended up with 28.1 inches of snow.
