EAST BRUNSWICK -- Police are looking for a person in a burgundy work van that reportedly tried to talk to a 13-year-old old girl in the area of Arthur Street Tuesday morning.

Lt. Kevin Zebro, a police spokesman, said police were notified before 8:53 a.m. that the young girl was in the roadway on her way to her school bus stop when the work-style van pulled alongside of her. He said the driver opened the passenger door and tried to talk to her.

Zebro said the girl ran home to her mother.

The driver of the van was described as a male in his 40's with a short stubble beard.

Zebro said the description of the individual and his van were broadcast to surrounding towns. A vehicle matching the description was stopped by South River police but it turned out it wasn't the same van. He said a further search for the van has not been successful so far.

"Parents are asked to remind their children to use caution when approached by any stranger no matter how innocent it appears," Zebro said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact East Brunswick police Detective Crispin Farrace at (732) 390-6990.
