ABERDEEN -- A drunken woman -- who slapped an officer during her arrest -- flagged down police to tend to her unconscious friend a little more than an hour after she was involved in a hit-and-run crash, police said.
Tess Fonseca, 22, of Aberdeen, was charged on Tuesday with aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, reckless driving, leaving the scene of a crash and other drug offenses.
At around 9:15 a.m., police responded to Cottage Place, where Fonseca lived, after her mother called police to report a woman in a vehicle who was possibly unresponsive.
When police arrived at the location, Fonseca, who police say appeared to be intoxicated, waved them down.
According to police, Fonseca told Officers Hank Chevaleir and Vito Turchiano that she couldn't awake another woman in the car, Jenna L. Custer, 20, of Old Bridge. The officers determined Custer was conscious but intoxicated.
Police noticed the car had significant damage to it, and also matched the description of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run crash at around 8 a.m. on Route 35, police said.
Patrolman Brian Alberti also realized that Fonseca matched the description of the hit-and-run driver, and placed her under arrest. During the arrest, police said, Fonseca slapped Chevalier.
Police also took into custody Custer, who spit on Patrolman Gus Grivas while she was being taken to headquarters, according to police.
In addition to both women being intoxicated, police found a glass pipe used to smoke marijuana and a small amount of marijuana inside the vehicle, police said.
Custer was charged with throwing bodily fluids on a law enforcement officer.
Both women were released from police custody pending an initial court appearance.
