Officer allegedly arranged to meet girl at Edison hotel
NEW BRUNSWICK -- A state corrections officer is accused of having a sexual encounter with a 15-year-old girl at an Edison hotel, authorities said Saturday.
Cole Boykin Jr., 34, of Bordentown, was charged with sexual assault, child endangerment and prostitution, Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Edison police Chief Thomas Bryan said in a joint statement.
Boykin contacted the teen using an unspecified website and arranged to meet her at the hotel, according to authorities.
The investigation began after police stopped the girl and a 16-year-old girl outside the hotel Friday, the statement said. The pair told officers they had a dispute with Boykin.
The corrections officer left the hotel, but was tracked down by police, authorities said.
Boykin was arrested Saturday and held at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick, authorities said. Bail was not immediately set.
According to the prosecutor's office, Boykin is employed as an officer at New Jersey State Prison in Trenton. The state Department of Corrections did not immediately have additional information about Boykin.
Authorities said the investigation was ongoing and asked anyone with information to contact Edison police Detectives Robert Duffy or Michael Kohut at 732-248-7400, or prosecutor's Detectives Deon McCall and Joseph Chesseri at 732-745-3300.
