NEW BRUNSWICK -- Two men have been arrested and charged with illegally disposing of a corpse, the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office announced on Thursday.

Scott Maynor, 33, and Edward Guy, 35, both of Bound Brook, were arrested and charged earlier this week after the remains of 27-year-old Nicholas Phelan, of Edison, were found "in a wooded section of Piscataway near River Road," according to a statement from the prosecutor's office.

Bail for both Maynor and Guy has been set at $75,000 each.

An investigation -- conducted by officials from the county prosecutor's office along with the Piscataway and Bound Brook police departments -- found that Maynor, Guy and Phelan were in Bound Brook when Phelan died, the prosecutor's office said. However, the cause of death is not yet known, and the results of a toxicological test are pending.

After Phelan's death, Maynor and Guy moved him "to the wooded section where he later was discovered by" a passerby.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Canastra of the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office at 732-745-3809, or Det. Robert Rose and Det. Joseph Reilly of the Piscataway Police Department at 732-562-2366.
