OLD BRIDGE -- An Old Bridge youth counselor has been charged with improperly touching a boy under the age of 16 on multiple occasions.
Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey announced Friday afternoon that Irving Acevedo, 42, of the Laurence Harbor section of the township, was charged Thursday with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Carey said Acevedo was charged during an investigation by Detective Addie Spinola of the Old Bridge Police Department and county Detective Donald Heck.

He said the victim is not one of the children who received counseling from Acevedo, who is a mental health specialist.
The prosecutor did not say how the case came to the attention of law enforcement.
Carey said Acevedo is in custody, waiting for bail to be set.
He said the investigation is active and continuing.
