An electrical fire temporarily shuttered South Plainfield High School last week.
SOUTH PLAINFIELD -- South Plainfield High School was evacuated last week from an electrical fire that has temporarily shuttered the school for potentially up to three weeks, according to a report by MyCentralJersey.com.
The fire at the high school -- which was closed Thursday and Friday -- could be from old transforming lines in its electrical system, the report said. The cause remains unknown.
District officials, according to the report, are looking to temporary relocate students at the high school, the report said.
Officials are hoping a generator has the school operational by Monday, but backup plans were made in the case that fails, the report said.
Information on time and location for classes on Monday will be posted on the school district's website by 8 p.m. on Sunday with telephone notifications and emails issued to parents subscribing to the service, according to the report.
If the school is operational by Monday, there will be a delayed opening.
The following is the district's plan if the generator does not work:
- Elementary schools will operate on their normal schedules
- Classes will be held at Grant School and the middle school until 12:12 p.m.
- Classes for students in grades 9 and 10 will be held from 12:45 p.m. to 5 p.m.
- Grades 11 and 12 will have class at the middle school 12:45 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Food will be served in cafeterias, according to MyCentralJersey.com
If weather hits the area, there will be delayed openings at the elementary schools.
- Grant School and the middle school will be closed
- Grades 9 and 10 should go to Grant School at 9:35 a.m.
- Grades 11 and 12 should to the middle school at 9:35 a.m.
