According to Rutgers University, the stadium off Metlars Lane opened in 1938 with the aid of Works Progress Administration grants and could seat approximately 20,000 fans.
The facility was expanded to hold 41,500 fans in 1994, and was renovated again in 2009 for its current capacity of more than 52,000.
