NEW BRUNSWICK - A Rutgers student well-known in political circles died suddenly Wednesday morning at age 21.
Edward Romano of Iselin was president of the Rutgers University Democrats and an intern with the Middlesex County Democratic Committee.
Romano died at home. The cause of death is not known.
An undergraduate senior history student on track to graduate in 2016, Romano had a reputation for being a bright and enthusiastic student-mentor, according to PolitickerNJ.
Romano stated on LinkedIn he campaigned for Barbara Buono for New Jersey governor in 2013 and worked for more than a year at Monroe Township's Department of Public Works Parks.
The Rutgers University Democrats is the largest political organization at the school. They seek to promote political awareness and involvement.
Several people expressed their sorrow on social media Wednesday.
"You achieved things that others would have be incapable of if they had endured the hardship that you went through in life," Emil David Browder wrote on Romano's Facebook page. "All people should strive to work as hard as you did and be as generous to others as you were."
We mourn the sudden loss of Edward Romano of Iselin - Pres. of @RUDems & an intern with the @middlesexdems. RIP. http://t.co/SBOraUYNE6
