SOUTH BRUNSWICK -- A South Brunswick man was arrested Thursday morning in Times Square in New York and charged with the murder of his live-in girlfriend.
Authorities said Andre Griffith, 37, was arrested at 1:15 a.m. after a week-long search and charged with the murder of Samantha Ross, 47, whose body was discovered on Sept. 24, 2015, in the home they shared on Jones Drive in South Brunswick.
Griffith is being held in New York on $1 million bail until he can be returned to New Jersey, Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey said.
"I applaud the diligent efforts of the law enforcement officers that led to the safe capture of the defendant," Carey said.
He said the search for Griffith included members of the U.S. Marshal's Service Fugitive Unit, the New York City Police Department, and the South Brunswick Police Department as well as members of his county detective department.
Authorities said the investigation began after relatives for Ross, concerned for her welfare, called police, who went into the home at 607 Jones Drive and found her dead.
An autopsy performed by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner's Office attributed her death to asphyxiation.
Anyone with information about the investigation is asked to call South Brunswick police Detective Eric Tighelaar at (732) 329-4646 or county Detective Craig Marchak at (732) 745-3254.
