The South Brunswick Health Department reported a rabid bat was found in the Kendall Park section of town earlier this month.
SOUTH BRUNSWICK -- The township health department was notified Friday that a bat submitted has tested positive for rabies, according to a statement.
The statement, released Monday, said the bat was found in the vicinity of Oakley Drive in the Kendall Park section of the township.
Health officials reminded residents that the rabies virus can infect all mammals, including humans.
They recommend all pets should be vaccinated against rabies and vaccinations should be kept current.
Officials warned never to feed or touch wild animals and avoid contact with stray pets.
They also recommend residents contact the health department if a pet comes in contact with a wild animals and report any unusual behavior of stray or wild animals to South Brunswick Animal Control.
