OLD BRIDGE -- The council chose a replacement Monday night for long-time councilman Reginald Butler, who died earlier this month after a lengthy illness.

June Dungee, 72, will represent Ward 3 until November when there will be a special election to choose someone to fill out the remaining year left on Butler's term.

Mark Razzoli, the chairman of the Old Bridge Democratic Party, said Dungee will be the party's candidate in the November special election as well.

"She wants to carry on Councilman Butler's legacy of community first," Razzoli said.

Dungee is a county committeewoman for Ward 3, but she has never run for an elected office, he said.

She is also a member of the Middlesex County Federation of Women and a supporter of The Literacy Program for Middlesex County, Razzoli said.

He said she worked with Butler, who was Old Bridge's longest serving councilman, having been elected to the governing body in 1989.

Butler was the only Democrat on the nine-member Republican-dominated council when he died.
