Ciclovia, the popular bi-annual event in New Brunswick, designed to foster health by closing streets, has been cancelled due to the weather.
NEW BRUNSWICK -- New Brunswick officials are not taking any chances with the weather and are cancelling this year's second scheduled Ciclovia, the bi-annual event held to foster health by closing streets to create more than three miles of roads for bikes and pedestrians to use without worrying about vehicular traffic.
Jennifer Bradshaw, a city spokeswoman, said the decision was made Friday afternoon, to cancel the event that draws people from all around the east coast to New Brunswick.
In April, the last time the event was held, bicycles, pop-up skate parks and other activities were among the 15 activity stations set up along the three-mile path for visitors and participants to use.
New Brunswick Ciclovia is a community collaborative sponsored by the city, New Brunswick Tomorrow, Johnson & Johnson and Rutgers University with the assistance of more than 24 additional community organizations, according to organizers.
Ciclovia means "bike path" in Spanish.
