New Jersey State Police and local officers are looking for a man who fled from an ambulance Friday, July 15, 2016, while being transported between two hospitals.

HILLSBOROUGH -- New Jersey State Police and local officers are looking for a patient who fled from an ambulance Friday morning while being transported between two hospitals, Lt. Brian Polite, a State Police spokesman, said.

At approximately 11 a.m., the patient, whose name is being withheld by authorities, got out of the ambulance while it was traveling on Amwell Road in Millstone, said Polite.

Polite didn't release the name of the hospitals or the reason he was being transported. State Police officers from the Somerville barracks, State Police K9 Units, the Hillsborough police and other local agencies are involved in the search, said Polite.

As of 3 p.m., Polite said the patient is believed to be in Woodbridge and the State Police is no longer part of the search. He said the Hillsborough and Woodbridge police departments are now leading the search.

Hillsborough police Corporal Tom McLain said the patient presents no danger to the public.
