SAYREVILLE -- A Sayreville Police Department mechanic died Friday night after he was hit by a car, authorities said.
Daniel Carter, 54, of Sayreville, was struck on Main Street by a 2011 Honda Accord shortly after 6 p.m., Sayreville police said.
Authorities said the crash occurred near Allgair Street. Police responding to the scene found Carter lying on the ground in the road. He was rushed to Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy where he was pronounced dead, police said in a statement.

Police did not release the identity of the 33-year-old driver of the Accord.
Authorities are investigating the incident and ask anyone with information about the accident to contact Sayreville police officer David Sivilli in the Traffic Safety Bureau at 732-525-5429.
"On a more personal note, Danny was a long time borough employee who was one of our police department mechanics," the statement said. "We will all miss him."
