MONROE -- A 2-year-old girl with developmental disabilities was safely recovered Wednesday after wandering away from a daycare facility on Prospect Plains Road, authorities said.
The toddler wandered away from Remsterville Learning Center, a state-licensed daycare facility, at about 10 a.m. on Aug. 10, but she was found a short time later walking by herself on the shoulder of Applegarth Road by a good Samaritan, Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Monroe Police Chief Michael E. Lloyd said in a news release.
The good Samaritan then safely removed the child from the roadway and contacted the township police, Carey and Lloyd said.
Police then determined the girl was under the supervision of the daycare when she wandered off, but the facility hadn't notified police she was missing.
The Middlesex County Prosecutor's office is conducting the investigation in conjunction with the Monroe Police Department and the Institutional Abuse Investigation Unit of the New Jersey Department of Children & Families.
An employee at Remsterville Learning Center told NJ Advance Media Friday she couldn't discuss the investigation or the incident itself.
No charges have been filed at this time.
Anyone with more information on this incident can call Detective Kenneth Saunders of the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office at 732-745- 4280, or Detective Ronald Breuer of the Monroe Police Department at 732-521-0222.
