Vito Nigro, the Colonia man facing a charge of murder for allegedly slaying his wife appeared in Middlesex County Superior Court for an arraignment on Thursday.

NEW BRUNSWICK -- The Colonia man charged in connection with the slaying his ex-wife in July 2015 pleaded not guilty Thursday.

Vito Nigro, 42, appeared with his attorney, Michael Policastro, at the Middlesex County Courthouse before Superior Court Judge Dennis Nieves, according to a report by MyCentralJersey.com.

Nigro, who was indicted earlier this month by a grand jury, faces charges of murder and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. An autopsy found that his 32-year-old ex-wife, Giogina Cimino Nigro, died from blunt force and sharp force trauma.

After he allegedly killed her in the Woodbridge home they shared, he threw himself off a Garden State Parkway bridge in an attempted suicide. He survived the fall but sustained broken bones and other injuries,

A status conference is scheduled for Nov. 4, according to court records.
