Two children were struck by a vehicle on Thursday.
EDISON -- Two 11-year-old girls were injured Thursday after they ran across the road and were struck by a vehicle.
The girls, one of Edison and the other of Metuchen, had run across New Dover Road at round 3 p.m. when they were hit by a car traveling westbound, according to a statement from the township.
Witnesses, according to the statement, told authorities that the two girls "darted across New Dover Road near Lawlor Court and into the path of an oncoming Audi."
Though a crossing guard was nearby, the girls darted across before approaching the crosswalk at New Dover Road and Floyd Street, according to officials.
The Audi was being driven by a 78-year-old Metuchen man.
The girls sustained broken bones, and were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
Officials in the statement said the driver, who was not injured, will not be charged.
