N.J.'s Rivera and Anzano, 2 of top recruits in the nation, have chosen their colleges

Old Bridge's Rivera is a premier 800-meter runner, and Anzano of Christian Brothers Academy is among the top milers in the nation

Drake Anzano of Christian Brothers Academy and Rey Rivera of Old Bridge, two of New Jersey's biggest distance running stars and two of the top recruits in the nation, announced their college plans on Tuesday night.

Anzano has chosen to stay close to home and attend Princeton University, and Rivera has elected to attend Georgetown University.

Anzano, who also visited the University of Pennsylvania, Columbia and Georgetown, won the outdoor 1,600-meter run at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions as a sophomore and junior and owns personal bests times of 4:08.96 in the 1,600, 9:03.49 in the 3,200, and 1:53.91 in the 800.

Rivera, who also visited Penn State, won the outdoor 800 at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions as a sophomore and junior and owns personal bests times of 1:50.66 in the 800 and 4:19.64 in the 1,600.

Also a great cross-country runner, Rivera won his second straight GMC XC title this past Saturday, and is one of the favorites to win the state Group 4 title next month.
