Thomas Seymore of Carteret faces up to 20 years in prison
NEWARK -- A 38-year-old New Jersey man admitted Tuesday he imported nearly 9 pounds of an illegal synthetic drug from China for sale in the United States.
Thomas Seymore, of Carteret, pleaded guilty in a Newark federal courtroom to one count of conspiring to distribute ethylone, the U.S Attorney's Office said in a news release.
Seymore helped arrange for nearly 9 pounds of ethylone to be ordered from China and shipped to Teaneck. The drug stimulates the nervous system and can cause hallucinogenic effects, officials said.
Seymore faces up to 20 years in federal prison when he is sentenced Feb. 1, 2017.
He was indicted on April 16. Officials said Seymore conspired with others, but did not name the alleged co-conspirators.
