Students elect their first school mascot.
PISCATAWAY -- While the rest of the country was voting on a new president, the students at Martin Luther King Intermediate School were focused on electing a new school mascot.
The teachers wanted to emphasize the importance of voting and having a say, so they created a voting booth. Then, with help from members of the school's PTO and volunteer poll workers, the students signed in, entered the voting booth and cast their votes. Each voter received a flag pencil and a sticker that read, "I voted."
The result was the election of the school's first-ever mascot, the King Penguin.
