Reports of a gas odor were being investigated Monday night
WOODBRIDGE -- Route 1 & 9 southbound was closed near the US 9 split for a fire department investigation into a strong odor of propane gas, police said.
The odor was first reported around 6 p.m. but its source could not immediately be identified. Firefighters later tracked it to a tanker truck containing propane that was leaking, police said. The truck was parked at the Days Inn motel in Iselin.
The leak was contained by about 8:30 p.m., police also said., and the highway was reopened.
