Miguel Delgado Benitez, 21, and Juan Carlos Marrero-Cardona, 32, have been charged with murder in the Monday shooting, police say
CARTERET -- Two Carteret men have been charged with murder in the death of a 63-year-old borough man earlier this week, authorities said.
Miguel Delgado Benitez, 21, and Juan Carlos Marrero-Cardona, 32, are accused of shooting Briccio Guevara as he returned home late Monday night, Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey said in a release Friday.
Guevara was pronounced dead at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Rahway early Tuesday morning. Police found Guevara shot in the entryway of his home at 12:01 a.m. while responding to reports of gunfire from neighbors.
Benitez and Marrero-Cardona were arrested Thursday and are being held on $1 million bail at Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center, the statement said.
Both also face charges of conspiracy to commit murder, hindering prosecution and unlawful possession of a weapon.
