Fady Chedid agreed to pay back taxes on the home, leave the house and transfer the deed back to the woman
NEW BRUNSWICK -- A city man has admitted to duping an 88-year-old into signing over her house to him and writing himself checks from her bank account, authorities said.
Fady Chedid, 53, pleaded guilty to theft as part of a plea bargain Tuesday, Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey said in a release.
Chedid was charged in August after state authorities at Adult Protective Services of the Division of Family and Children's Services received an anonymous tip and notified the prosecutor's office.
As part of his plea, Chedid agreed in Middlesex County Superior Court to pay back taxes on the home, leave the house and transfer the deed back to the woman, according to Carey.
He will also have to pay the woman $10,000 in restitution for the fraudulent checks he wrote for varying amounts between Sept. 4, 2013, and June 2014.
Chedid had been living in the New Brunswick home since he moved the woman into a nursing home, according to the release. It was unclear how long Chedid had lived at the house.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on March 17, 2017.
