A man was killed on Thursday by a freight train in Edison.
EDISON -- A man was killed Thursday afternoon after he apparently hopped a fence and darted in front of freight train near Tingley Lane, according to a statement from the township.
Authorities are considering the incident -- which occurred around 1 p.m. -- a "possible suicide," the statement said.
Witnesses, according to the township, told police "the man jumped a chain link fence, ran onto the Conrail tracks and appeared to stop in the path of a CSX freight train."
The man, whose name and age were not released because police have yet to confirm his identity or notify his family -- was later pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials.
The matter remains under investigation by the township police department.
