The Starbucks on College Avenue opened just two months ago
NEW BRUNSWICK -- The Starbucks on the Rutgers campus in the city closed abruptly last week after only being open for less than two months.
A small handwritten sign was taped below the coffee chain's logo reading, "Sorry, We are closed," as about a dozen people waited for a bus on College Avenue Monday morning.
Christopher Paladino, president of the New Brunswick Development Corporation, said the busy location near the corner of College Avenue and Hamilton Street shuttered due to "contractual issues" between the operator and the company.

"The Starbucks was closed due to a dispute between its licensee and Corporate Office," Paladino said. "We are working with Starbucks Corporate and are optimistic that the store will reopen in the very near future under new management."
The Yard @ College Avenue has been touted as the "most sought after, on-campus housing option" at the Rutgers New Brunswick campus, where 135 new apartments were opened for the 2016 fall semester.
Starbucks did not immediately respond to emails for comment.
