A pedestrian from Trenton and a New Brunswick motorist were killed in the crashes.

LAWRENCE -- A pedestrian was killed and a New Brunswick man died in a one-car crash in less than three hours Friday and early Saturday on Brunswick Pike, police said.

At about 10:10 p.m, Friday, Kenneth Voropay, 63, of Trenton, was hit by a car on Brunswick Pike (Route 1) as he tried to cross the highway's center median from the southbound lanes to the northbound side, police said.

Officers found him in the southbound lanes near the Toys-R-Us store. An ambulance rushed him Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver of the vehicle that hit him, a 41-year-old Lawrence woman, declined medical treatment at the scene.

At 1:45 a.m. Saturday, a car struck a tree off of southbound Brunswick Pike just south of Franklin Corner Road. Police arrived and found the solo driver trapped.

Lawrence firefighters cut 54-year-old Shaukat Bhatti from the car and police officers and paramedics started CPR, but the New Brunswick man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lawrence police ask anyone who witnessed either crash to call them at 609-896-1111.
