Jamil C. Pollard, 23, of Woodbury, agreed to a deal a month ago in which he will plead guilty to two counts of theft of a person
NEW BRUNSWICK -- One of the former Rutgers football players charged in connection with a home invasion on campus has accepted a plea deal, court documents show.
Jamil C. Pollard, 23, of Woodbury, pleaded guilty at a hearing last month to lesser charges of two counts of theft of a person, a third-degree crime, according to the filings on the plea deal obtained by NJ Advance Media through an open records request.
Pollard was accused -- along with fellow former player Lloyd M. Terry Jr., of Wrightstown -- of breaking into a Davidson Hall dorm room on the Busch Campus on Dec. 14, 2014, and swiping marijuana and cash from the student. Both were charged with robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery and burglary.
As part of the deal signed by the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office on Feb. 6, Pollard could face up to five years in prison and fines up to $15,000, according to the deal. However, the plea allows for the judge to sentence him to probation.
He is scheduled to be sentenced by Superior Court Judge Dennis Nieves on April 7.
Pollard's attorney did not respond to requests for comment.
Lawyers for Terry, and ex-football players, Andre Boggs, of Coatesville, Pa., appeared in court Monday in front of Judge Nieves on Monday in connection with a separate home invasion. The cases against the former Scarlet Knights and five others charged with various crimes during the robbery investigation have stalled.
The prosecutor's office and defense attorneys agreed to delay the cases until Nieves rules on whether or not Johnson's cell phone records can be used as evidence.
The cell phone was the focal point of proceedings during a pretrial hearing last month when his lawyer questioned a New Brunswick officer about a signed form that allowed police access to the iPhone.
The phone in question provided the prosecutor's office with photos of the items stolen in the robberies and text messages discussing the heists, according to authorities.
Johnson was originally arrested in connection to one armed robbery but was later charged with two more armed robberies in the city and taking part in an attack on Delafield Street.
Johnson rejected a plea deal in September that included a 15-year prison term.
Five other former players were also charged in the city fight over a parking spot that left a man with a broken jaw.
In total, seven people were charged in the robberies. Five others were charged in separate crimes discovered during the investigation into the robberies.
