Simranjeet Singh Sandhu, 23, was charged in a crash that killed Caeser Contreras of New Brunswick.
FORT LEE - One man was killed and two women were critically injured after the car they were in was rear-ended and destroyed by a truck early Monday on the George Washington Bridge, authorities said.
The driver of the truck, who allegedly drove off after the crash, was later arrested at a Bergen County rest stop and charged with DWI, police said.
Police identified the truck driver as Simranjeet Singh Sandhu, 23, of Durham, N.C.
"Port Authority police interviewed the driver, determined that he was under the influence of alcohol and arrested him for operating a commercial vehicle with a BAC of .04 percent or higher," said Joseph Pentangelo, police spokesman.
Police said Sandhu's blood-alcohol level was .06.

The man who died was identified as Caeser Contreras of New Brunswick, Pentangelo said. Two women with Contreras were taken to Harlem Hospital in critical condition, the spokesman said.
Pentangelo said police received reports early Monday that a tractor trailer had been involved in a crash on the bridge about 2:50 a.m. and fled the scene.
"Port Authority police officers went to the Vince Lombardi service area on Rt. 95 South (in Ridgefield) where they found the suspect vehicle just off the entrance road inside the service area," Pentangelo said. "The vehicle displayed very heavy front end damage, was a green Volvo and was green in color."
Sandhu was interviewed by police, arrested and taken to the GWB command center, the spokesman said.
