Adam Martignetti, 43, was arrested on Tuesday after being indicted on charges of wire fraud conspiracy, corruption and false testimony the statement said.
LINDEN -- A former salesman for a Linden lumber company has been indicted on charges of defrauding customers including Amtrak and local towns by over-billing and providing lesser quality materials, the U.S. Attorney's Office said in a statement.
Adam Martignetti, 43, of South River, was arrested Tuesday after being indicted on wire fraud conspiracy and corruption charges, the statement said. He was also charged with lying to a federal grand jury.
In the over-billing scheme, Martignetti gave employees of Amtrak, the City of Elizabeth and the Plainfield Board of Education free items like iPads, patio furniture, and a camera and sound system, authorities said. He then over-billed the company to recoup the cost of the gifts.
Martignetti also told a grand jury under oath that he never took part in the over-billing scheme, which was supervised by Bayway president and part-owner, Robert Datillo, authorities said.
Datillo, previously pleaded guilty to mail and wire fraud conspiracy charges. He was sentenced four years in prison and was ordered to pay more than $700,000 in restitution in July.
