Troop 12 honors three of their members at an Eagle Court of Honor.
EDISON -- Philip Duddy, Robert Heintjes and Joseph Mansonet -- members of Boy Scout Troop 12 -- have earned the Eagle Award, the Boy Scouts' highest honor.
To earn the Eagle Award, a Scout must be active with a troop, earn a minimum of 21 merit badges, assume a position of leadership within a troop and complete a service project that benefits the community.
For his project, Duddy installed a 4-foot statue of St. Joseph on a granite base in front of St. Francis Cathedral in Metuchen. The project included planting evergreens and perennials around the base of the statue.
Heintjes cleared plant debris and litter from the perimeter of Gateway Park in Edison, made repairs to the baseball field's backstop fence and repainted the park's sign.
Mansonet built a regulation-size sand volleyball court at Edison High School. To complete the project, he used a backhoe to dig 18 inches into the ground before filling the area with sand, installed a regulation-size net and wood around the perimeter.
Duddy is a senior at Metuchen High School, Heintjes and Mansonet are seniors at Edison High School. They were honored at an Eagle Court of honor held April 2 at VFW Post 3117 in Edison.
