The treatment comes a few weeks after a ringworm outbreak.
EDISON -- Fourteen cats are being quarantined and treated for respiratory tract infections at the Edison Animal Shelter, according to town officials.
"Only a few cats displayed symptoms, but we are being extremely cautious. We are taking preventative measures to be certain each receives appropriate care," Edison Business Administrator Maureen Ruane said in an emailed statement. "We want to ensure that every pet Edison offers for adoption is healthy."

The cats had come to Edison from the already-overcrowded Burlington County Animal Shelter, the town said. None had previously displayed symptoms.
On Monday, county and SCPA officials inspected the shelter. Vets under town contracts are now treating the cats and kittens.
The shelter is still open, and has 12 dogs -- kept separately from the cats -- available for adoption. But no more cats are being taken in.
In September, the shelter was temporarily shut down after a ringworm outbreak.
